How to clean your alloy wheels, a step by step guide

Not sure how to clean your alloy wheels?

We’ve produced this step by step guide to cleaning alloy wheels. You can’t go wrong!

  1. Remove surface dirt and grit.
  2. Use a pressure washer or hose to remove as much surface dirt as possible from your wheels. If you skip this step, you could scratch your wheels!
  3. Prepare yourself! Wear rubber gloves on to protect your hands against any chemicals in your wheel cleaning product.
  4. Apply a Fallout Remover to remove corrosive ferrous metals and ingrained dirt from your wheel surface. Avoid acid based cleaning solutions, especially if you have AlloyGators fitted
  5. Apply a Wheel Cleaner to remove the finer, more stubborn grime, covering the wheel, AlloyGator and centre caps for a thorough clean. You may need to use a soft bristle brush to agitate and loosen the tough dirt.
  6. Clean the lug nuts. You may want to use a lug nut brush to get the best results.
  7. Final wipe down. To ensure you wheel surface is properly clean and dry, use a microfiber cloth to lift any remaining dust particles. Don’t use the same cloth that you’d use on your car body; dirt particles from your wheels could scratch your paintwork.
  8. Use a wheel wax on your wheel surfaces for a professional, wet look finish.
  9. Apply a good Tyre Shine to your tyres to create a waterproof barrier against stubborn road grime and dirt.
