Q. Do AlloyGators work?

‘Do AlloyGators work’? gets asked a lot, so we’ll try to be as objective as possible. We’ll reframe the question to what people are most likely asking i.e., ‘Do AlloyGators protect alloy wheels?’ (They also prevent your tyre walls from damage too by the way).

 A. Yes, 100%. So long as your AlloyGators are fitted correctly either by an AlloyGator approved trained professional or by yourself using the Premium AlloyGator DIY Fitting Kit with Toolbox – while following the instructions.

If fitted properly, AlloyGators can last for several years with safe driving. Most people get at least 12 months wear from them. Several of our customers are still using their original AlloyGator sets from several years ago. One customer has had the same set for seven years and they’re as effective as ever! Of course, more aggressive driving styles and higher impact scrapes and scuffs are likely to wear out in less time.

The reason AlloyGators have a long lifespan is because they are made from super tough blended nylon composite. They also have an added UV stabiliser and impact modifier, to enable strength and durability in variable climates.

In 2023, Toyota GB approved AlloyGator as an approved provider of alloy wheel protectors to its UK network of dealerships, for both new and used vehicles. We’re also an approved accessory provider to Peugeot, Citroen, and DS. Now when household car brands are happy for your product to be fitted to tens of thousands of their new and used vehicles – you know you’re doing something right. So ‘Do AlloyGators work’? – the answer is a resounding YES!

Q. Are AlloyGators safe?

AlloyGators are HORIBA MIRA and TUV SUD certified and approved. HORIBA MIRA is a global provider of automotive engineering, research, and test services. It has over 75 years’ experience in developing some of the world’s most iconic vehicles and components.

TUV SUD automotive testing puts automotive components through a series of laboratory, virtual and ‘real world’ assessments to ensure they are safe, reliable and compliant with safety regulations.

Automotive testing is a requirement for accessing global automotive markets and they put AlloyGators through a rigorous assessment. We’re pleased to say they passed without issue!

Q. Do AlloyGators Damage Wheels?

We have fitted hundreds of thousands of sets of AlloyGators over the last thirteen years right across the world. In our experience, there are only three reasons why an AlloyGator would come away from a wheel or tyre and cause damage.

1. It has been fitted to an incompatible wheel or tyre.

2. It has not been fitted correctly.

3. It has sustained high impact, remained uninspected, and not refitted.

If heavy impacts do occur, particularly at high speed, the AlloyGator(s) could become detached and damage the wheel. However, as with any car component, as soon as it becomes worn or damaged, you replace it and the situation is rectified.

So, in summary, day-to-day scrapes and scuffs do not move the AlloyGator out of position or damage the wheel.

Q. Are AlloyGators Worth It?

Another very common question.

Given the facts summarised above regarding durability, safety and overall protection to your alloy wheels and tyres, buying a set of AlloyGators easily outweighs the cost and time of having four wheels professionally refurbished.

Let’s use a typical example of a private vehicle owner who covers the UK average annual mileage of 6,000 for petrol and 7,900 for diesel models*.

A set of AlloyGators that fit up to 24-inch wheels, fitted by our five-star fitting service, cost from £170 which includes VAT and will last on average for 12-18 months and quite often longer.

The average cost of professionally refurbishing four alloy wheels in the UK is £300 for up to 21 inch and £340 for 22-inch wheels plus VAT which bumps it up to £360 and £408 respectively**. Plus, that’s just an average – many wheel refurbishment companies charge way more than this.

Even if you’re only covering a small amount of mileage each year, it’s still oh so easy to scratch or scuff newly refurbished alloys. And it’s not unknown for people to scuff them on the way home from the refurb garage!

With AlloyGators all that worry is removed. Plus there’s an extra safety advantage because you’re not constantly looking downwards for stray kerbs and potholes when you should be looking ahead at the road for oncoming traffic!

Finally, AlloyGators can be fitted at several sites throughout the UK in approx. one hour while you wait. Most professional wheel refurbishments can take anywhere between 36 and 72 hours. This means you lose your vehicle for at least a day or two which impacts your work and social life, and / or you end up spending more money on a courtesy car.
